Personnel Today have reported on recent research carried out by XpertHR that suggests graduate recruiters are struggling to find well-qualified candidates to fill their roles. Nearly two-fifths (38%) of 182 employers surveyed by XpertHR believe that there are too few graduates to fill entry-level vacancies, despite high youth unemployment rates. Employers faced a variety of challenges in recruiting graduates, with four-fifths (80%) of those surveyed citing poor-quality applicants as the biggest problem. Meanwhile, more than two-fifths (44%) of organisations had faced difficulties when candidates who had previously accepted job offers then withdrew from them. The survey did find some cause for optimism though, with three-quarters (76%) of organisations reporting that they were currently looking to recruit graduates and 89% forecasting that they would be recruiting them in the future.
