nucleargraduates is the sector wide graduate programme for the nuclear industry. Established in 2007 by the Nuclear Decommissioning Agency, the graduate programme currently has 60 graduates on the programme in direct engineering and scientific disciplines. Further sponsors of the programme now include Rolls-Royce, Sellafield Ltd., Magnox Ltd. and International Nuclear Services.
With his team of only three colleagues, together this small team manage an average over 3,000 applications per season as well as managing all graduate development and programme management across sixteen UK sites.
nucleargraduates has reduced its selection administration by 80% and yet are confident they have selected the best candidates.

10:45 How to outsource the selection process effectively
Michelle Palin — New Entrants Resourcing Specialist at Network Rail
Employers are all aware of the necessity of a positive candidate experience however, with increasing pressures placed on in-house recruiters few are able to invest the amount of time required to effectively implement the steps required to achieve this. From initial attraction right through to assessment and selection, the session will provide insight into the practical measures necessary, and successes that have been realised from a first-class client:supplier partnership.
Network Rail is a dynamic and forward thinking organisation with multiple, large scale entry-level programmes. Application and vacancy numbers have increased across all programmes in recent years. Network Rail outsource many aspects of the delivery of the graduate, placement and MSc programmes to GradWeb. The partnership has expanded recently to include the Apprentice programme and the rail industry wide ‘Track and Train’ paid internship programme.
In light of this backdrop, during this session Michelle Palin will give an insight into the benefits Network Rail gain from outsourcing as well as sharing her thoughts on the key ingredients to ensuring a successful relationship with your outsource partner. Michelle Smith, Director of Client Services at GradWeb, will contribute the suppliers’ perspective and will cover steps that can and should be taken to mitigate against some of the perceived risks of outsourcing.
