Finding a graduate job is now harder than ever, reports The Times in their Graduate Career Supplement. According to the Association of Graduate Recruiters, the average number of applications for graduate jobs now stands at 83 per vacancy, a record figure. These increases mean that companies are now having to process far more applications than ever before and typically have to do that on decreased financial resources because of the recession. Some organisations are turning to artificial intelligence to manage the flood of applications. What this all means is that graduates are going to have to become skilled in something similar to the search engine optimisation used by websites to attract traffic now that CVs are going to increasingly be scrutinised by “robots” rather than the human resources team, at least in the initial phase.
