AGR appoints Operations ManagerFor immediate release: Wednesday 23 July 2008
The position has gone to Gary Argent, who joins from Logica where he has been the UK Graduate Recruitment Manager since 2004. Gary has worked in the recruitment industry for the last eight years and has been on the AGR board since November 2006. He will take up his new post on 1 August 2008.
As the new AGR Operations Manager, Gary will work to strengthen relationships with existing members and to attract new members. He will report directly to the Chief Executive Carl Gilleard and one of his first challenges will be to review the AGR’s marketing strategy. He will also be responsible for the co-ordination of training activities, an area which the organisation plans to expand.
Carl Gilleard, who is celebrating his tenth year as Chief Executive of the AGR, said: “Gary has been a fantastic member of the AGR board since he joined in November 2006 and I know he will continue to contribute to the ongoing success of the organisation in his new role. He has terrific experience in the field of graduate recruitment and we cannot wait for him to start.”
Speaking about his new role at the AGR, Gary said: “I am delighted to be joining the AGR as Operations Manager. The recruitment industry is a very interesting place to be at the moment, and the AGR has a key role to play in helping universities, employers and suppliers work more closely together to raise standards and share best practice.
“I’m lucky enough to be joining the AGR at a very exciting time. Our membership is at record levels, the recent annual conference was the biggest and best that I have been to, and on top of all that we have a big birthday to celebrate this year! At the same time we are all facing a lot of challenges. The war for talent is as fierce as ever as recruiters continue to look for new ways to catch the attention of their target market on campus, and employers are having to work hard to develop and retain the best of these people.”
Gary originally joined Logica in 1991 after completing a degree in Computer Science. He went into project management and spent 18 months looking after a group of projects for the Ministry of Defence, where he was responsible for more than 30 people and a budget of several millions pounds. In 2000 Gary joined the central induction team, helping new graduates and senior joiners during their early days in the company and visiting other companies which had been acquired by Logica to help with the integration process.
In March 2004 Gary took over as UK Graduate Recruitment Manager for Logica, where he was responsible for the annual marketing and recruitment cycle for 200 graduates and placement students all around the UK.
